Yoga Eye Pillows And Cotton Mats

Eye Pillow: These are small rectangular pillows measuring about two inches by four inches. They are placed across the eyes in relaxation at the end of class. They help to block out light and the gentle pressure helps the eyes to rest. Eye pillows are often covered in silk or cotton and can be filled with sand, rice, flaxseed or wheat. Some eye pillows are scented. They can be bought at some yoga studios and online at some of the larger supply companies.

Pillow: A firm yoga pillow (sometimes called a bolster pillow or zafu) is best when slipped under the buttocks when sitting cross-legged. This facilitates spinal alignment. Pillows are used in restorative yoga and sometimes for relaxation at the end of a Hatha yoga class.

Cotton Mat:
These are placed over the sticky mat for comfort. They are made of thin cotton and are most often used for the sitting postures. Some people also use the cotton mat as a blanket for rest at the end of practice. Cotton mats can be purchased at some yoga studios, at stores like Urban Outfitters and over the Internet. Search under “yoga mats” and you will find a selection of sites selling a complete range of yoga products. Cotton mats are often found under “blankets.”
