What Yoga Class Is Right For You?

Understanding the art and science of yoga not only deepens your practice of yoga postures, but also deepens your experience of life itself. Quite simply yoga is the Art and Science of Living. Perfecting the techniques of yoga is perfecting the life which you were born to live.
Here are some terms that will help you decide which Yoga class is right for you.
Open Yoga
Means “All skill levels.” For those looking to master the fundamentals of asana form and function, practice and application of pranayama, mudra and bandha, visualization and meditations. Yoga as a physical, energetic, and spiritual exercise. Difficulty level will be adjusted to the group that attends. Expect to be challenged, but don’t underestimate your ability to keep up.
Basic Flow Yoga
A vinyasa (flow) based class designed for the novice student or those looking for a straight-forward workout. You will practice and learn traditional hatha yoga postures, the “Sun Salutation” series, breathing techniques, and the essential elements for making your yoga practice truly powerful and dynamic. By linking movements inbetween postures with the breath, each practice provides you the opportunity to experience and learn at your own pace and level. This class combines Ashtanga, Viniyoga (yoga therapy), and Iyengar-style attention to alignment. Each class is self-contained, so there is no registration required.
Ashtanga
A specific series of postures synchronized with the breath, taught in the style of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. Known as an intense and rigorous style, Ashtanga develops strength and agility and is suggested for those who want a structured no-nonsense athletic workout. This class is designed to teach you the series and fundamentals of Ashtanga. The series is difficult and challenging, and perfecting it may take years, but the yoga journey is life-changing.
Kundalini
Kundalini Yoga classes consist of some chanting, one or more kriyas, and meditation. A kriya is a set of yogic exercises incorporating asanas (postures), mudras (hand positions), breathing techniques (pranayama), and/or a mantra. Very uplifting and enlightening. All levels welcome.
Vigorous Flow
Vinyasa-based class, flowing from one posture to the next, connected with the breath. Similar to Astanga in that it is a challenging workout, but without the structured series. Let your teacher be your guide as you flow fluidly through postures that are sequenced to maximize your yoga experience.
Vinyasa Yoga
Learn the fundamentals of yoga and progress into a deep continuous practice of vinyasa power yoga, the most popular style of yoga in America. Vinyasa yoga uses flowing movements in and between postures to create a dynamic vitality to your being. This type of class will immerse you in yoga and guide you with an understanding of you mind, body and spirit. You should learn basics of postures, correct alingment and body usage. You will learn proper breathing techniques and how your use breathing to deepen your awareness of the body and for relaxation of the mind. Using the fundamental techniques, the program deepens your understanding of yoga, and prepare you for a practice that will change your life.
