What Is Bhakti Yoga?

Bhakti yoga is the practice of converting the emotions into devotion or unselfish love. Yoga’s numerous health benefits, its potential for personal and spiritual transformation, and its accessibility make it a practical choice for anyone seeking physical, psychological and spiritual integration.

The philosophy of bhakti yoga suggests that just as one may have a feeling of love for another person, a favorite place, a rewarding type of work and so on, one may also develop a feeling of love for all humanity.

Prayer, chanting of mantras both verbally and mentally, singing of hymns, study of sacred stories, service of devotees, worship and meditation on one’s chosen form of divinity are some of the practices of bhakti yoga.

In the yoga tradition the ancient Indian scriptures, the Sanskrit language and the Hindu symbols of the cosmic being are commonly used; however, yoga recognizes the languages of all religions as leading to the same goal of loving all.

Yoga’s numerous health benefits make it a practical choice for anyone seeking physical, psychological and spiritual integration. The timeless applicability of yoga has helped bring it and other “alternative” models of healing into mainstream medicine.
