As with most exercises, it is best to practice yoga on an empty stomach, says Mara Carrico, author of Yoga Basics.
Why? Internal pressure on the organs increases with many of the poses, so a position that puts any pressure on a full stomach or bladder could be quite uncomfortable and could even cause nausea or dizziness.
It’s best to wait two to three hours after a large meal, or one to two hours after a small one, before beginning your yoga routine. If you’re feeling extremely hungry or weak before a session, have a small piece of fruit, a cup of yogurt or a protein drink to give you the fuel you need without filling up.
